Chapter 9

Well, since the last entry I’ve been continuing to work on the doors/latches and have been removing evidence of the “B” pillars in the body. Those are the upright part of the body supporting the roof behind the side windows. The goal is to make the cockpit look like it had always been a roadster (two seat convertable) or roadster pickup. The doors now shut fairly well, and latch as they originally would have in the 56′ Stude pickup donor vehicle. They have quite a bit of steel in them now. The upper door treatment was finiky, but is working out well. There is still work to do on them, but the basic structure is done. Today, I put the body up on end so that I could work on braces supporting the steel floor. This involved strap steel up front near the kick-panels and one inch square tubing throughout the rest of the floor. This went fairly smoothly, as I was welding new steel pieces together as opposed to most of the rest of the body which was recycled steel. Last today, I worked on the toe-boards, doing a little sculpting to get all the “free ends” to integrate.
Dave Leivestad from Carburetion and Turbo systems says that all of my ordered parts, save the dash gauge, are now in for the LP conversion.
