Chapter 8

Took the body off again after spending time finalizing the “footwell” area of the floor template. The main LP tank emerges slightly into the passenger area and a cutout needed to provide for this. Also, I needed a nicely tailored hatch for access to the under-floor battery/storage area. I cut the floor out of a big hunk of 16 gauge sheetmetal and over a couple days whittled it to shape and rolled the edges of the “hatches” for a more finished appearance.
I received the hinges which Gord Richmond so laboriously
extracted for me. I sand blasted them, and then ground them flat. Bolts had rusted solidly into a number of the countersunk mounting holes. I drilled them out to accept slightly larger countersunk screws.

Today, I will start making the front-inner door structure to match the 1937 Stude Dictator hinges to the 1956 pickup doors.
