Chapter 6

Put the body on the chassis for  a trial fit.  It settled in after a few nips and tucks.  Fashioned body mounts which bolt on with two bolts in front, and with two on each side in back.  Small rubber cushions sit between the body and frame.  I used a portion cut from just below the rear window of the C-cab as a step up cover over the area above the front of the swing-arms.  It had some nice curves pressed into it.  I tacked it on the outside, but will finish weld from the inside, and grind the overlap outside flush.  I used one inch square tubing to build up a perimeter base for the flooring.  With more of this, and some two inch by one inch rectangle tubing I will then build up more under-pinning floor support.  You can see the cardboard templates for the 12 gauge steel flooring.  There will be two hatches in the floor, just ahead of the seats.  On the driver’s side, there will be access for the 12 volt battery and a storage locker.  This will be a boxed in area with a vent for the battery.  On the passenger’s side, there will be an access hatch allowing removal or inspection of the forklift bottle whose home will be there.  To gain enough ground clearance for the LP tank, I may need to raise the floor of the passenger compartment some.  I think there will still be plenty of legroom.

I need more steel!
